Trip to South Eastern Nepal (Part-2)

After the fog effect was over, we started our journey from Birgunj for janakpur. The road is absolutely flat and plain.

(A mishap)

The mighty Kosi river passing below the road. At this part of the year, the river is absolutely dry. It is simply unimaginable that this was the river, which, just a couple of months back, inundated large parts of southern Nepal and the plains of northern Bihar of India !

On reaching Janakpur, we ventured out to have a look at the famous temple of Hindu Goddess "Sita".

Janakpur is the capital of ancient Mithila culture, and famous as birthplace of Sita believed to be incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi of the Hindu mythology. It is also believed to be the place where lord Ram and Sita met for the first time, fell in love and were married to each other. A temple in janakpurdham known as Janaki Temple dedicated to Sita, is the prime attraction of this region.
