The "Himalayan Car Rally"

So, after a long time , the three of us decided to go on a small "Himalayan Car Rally" - just to cris-cross the rugged and jagged Himalayan terrain and to have a visual feast of the natural splendor.

After staying for almost two years in Nepal, all of a sudden, we came to know that there happens to be a less-traversed route from Kathmandu to Birgunj (bordering Raxaul of Bihar side of India)- which as they said is a very rough and bumpy terrain normally avoided by commoners.

Thus the day came, the 20th of March'2010, when we set out for the adventurous "Himalayan Car rally". The main highlight of this trail, as we found out later, was there was no road at all !!!!

(The road-to-nowhere)

(Shristi- comfy inside- not willing to come outside for even a nano-second)

To the left side, lies a deep valley, the sight of which will send shivers down the spine- and to top it, the slope is so wobbly and unsteady- it is advisable to be away from the shores.

(The dangerous slope)

(Some evidence of civilization)

(Some semblance of civilization down under- God knows how they manage)

(Sumona-in high spirits and absolute glee - giving a close-up smile)

(Me- enjoying every bit and waiting for more)

The trail is an absolute disaster and all you need is to have sheer will power and of course the "horse-power" to carry through. By this time, the honda-City is crying on all four-cylinders. "Have mercy!"

(The never-ending slopes & mountains)

(The land-slides in between)

(The never-ending road)

Believe it or not, not a single soul crossed us during the entire stretch. And, that added to the mystery and enigma of the expedition. For the entire stretch, it was only three of us; and the mother Nature at it's pristine beauty and splendor.

Hope to repeat the journey in near future...........

Exploring the Himalayas in itself is quite adventurous more so for the people habituated in living in plains. The no road & the no soul factors must have added to the adventurous car rally.
