Trip to China Border

Trip to China Border

On 29Th of October'2008, we set out for out trip to "China Border", by Road, from Kathmandu. This was a holiday, here in Kathmandu, due to "Diwali" festivals. This Road is a highway, which connects Kathmandu with Beijing, and all trade links between the two countries are being done through this road only. The distance between Kathmandu & China-border is 120 kms only, but it takes 4 hours for one way.

Below is the beautiful landscape, just 25 kms away from Kathmandu, a place called "Dhulikhel". This is a tourist place, where rich & famous stay overnight & see the snow-clad ranges of Himalayas. They are seen here. Please do not confuse it with the white clouds ( of course they are there also!).

Below, is my better-half, Sumona, my co-pilot, both in this visit and in the journey of life. She has also got a great zeal to roam with me.

Below, is the sweet little goddess, my daughter, Srishti. Of course, roaming is not her cup of tea.

Below, This is me, a hard-core roam-er.

Our Vehicle, Opel Corsa, though an old Car, but is quite dependable.

The Road that leads to the China-border is quite beautiful as can be seen below. They say, journey is the destination & so it was !

There are quite a number of water-falls on this Road. They seem like falling from the heaven.

The beautiful landscape, where the Road plays hide & seek all along. You have to be careful while driving in these roads.

This is the vertical view of one of the waterfalls. Of course, this is only the lower half of the waterfall, as my camera could click this much from the available distance.

You can notice, the gusty winds blowing -- from the hairs on my head, while I was standing in front of the waterfall.

On the way, we stopped at one of the villages, looking for some warm clothing from the locals.

We are now at the "China-border", the name of the village (on the Nepali side) is "Kodari". Tourists, particularly, Nepali youths visit this place, as they get one day's free permit to visit the nearby town in China, to shop for cheap electronic goods and all such rubbish Chinese goods, which do not last for long.

There is also a hot-spring, "Tatopani", here, which is a major tourist attraction. People come here from far & wide to take a bath to cure their skin ailments, etc.

This is the last point up to which you can take your vehicle in this highway ( without Visa ).

The hot-springs, below. Not quire glamorous, but crowd-pullers, though. That day, there was not much of a crowd due to "diwali" - the festival of lights.

The river is the result of melting of snow and gives company to us for half of the journey.

So, that was it. We could not take the pictures of the main entrance of China-border as the Chinese police posted there, prevented us from doing so.

Overall, it was a good experience for us. Only if we had the same facility as Nepalis enjoy ( one day free permit to visit the bordering Chinese town )-- but for us Indians, Visa is a must. So we returned, overwhelmed with the nature's beauty.
